Nip Tuck Swim Women’s Swimwear that isn’t affected by Chlorine is made out of Polyester PBT and does contain any of the fibers within the fabric that are affected by the pool chemical Chlorine. Elastane is the fiber that is in regular swimwear fabrication that is affected by harsh chemicals. If you are a very regular swimmer that swims laps in a pool, then we highly recommend chlorine resistant swimwear.
Currently in our Women's Chlorine Resistant swimwear collection we offer 2 of our bestselling styles. Our best-selling silhouette ‘Joanne’ fit one piece style is an easy fit classic one piece swimsuit and a swimsuit style that is every woman’s favorite. Our second silhouette is our clip back ‘Leona’ style. Leona is a great style for ease of getting into as the clip back allows for more room to get on over your hips but still provides the most amount of support and coverage of a regular best-selling Nip Tuck Swim swimsuit.
What does Chlorine do to Swimwear?
All indoor and outdoor swimming pools, hot tubs and spa’s use the chemical Chlorine to destroy bacteria and control algae that grows in a pool environment. Chlorine is added to pools, so it is safe for us to swim. When our swimwear is exposed to Chlorine it will gradually break down, the Chlorine chemical over time will corrosively eat into the swimwear fibers causing the fabric to fade, become saggy, lose all stretch, gradually become see-through and over time degrade.
How do I know if my swimsuit is affected by pool chemicals
If your regular swimsuit is exposed to the pool chemical, Chlorine it will gradually break down and become saggy and see-through. The Chlorine chemical over time will gradually eat into the fibers causing the fabric to completely degrade. This deterioration starts to happen immediately but by the time we visually notice that our swimwear is degrading, it is too late to act as the elastic fibers within the fabric of our swimsuit have already broken down.
What does Chlorine Resistant mean?
Chlorine resistant means that a swimsuit is resistant to the degrading effects of the harsh chemical chlorine. A chlorine resistant swimsuit will be labeled as Chlorine Resistant swimwear as it has a different feel and fit to normal swimwear fabric.
A Nip Tuck Swim Chlorine Resistant swimsuit will last for season after season. Due to its longevity and swimsuit life span, a chlorine resistant swimsuit is not only more economical it is also more environmental, as you tend to buy less swimwear because your swimwear lasts a lot longer.
What is Chlorine Resistant Swimwear made of?
Chlorine Resistant swimwear is made from a polyester PBT that is not affected by chlorine. The fiber that is affected dramatically by the harsh chemical chlorine is elastane. Elastane is used in swimwear fabrics as it creates the stretch, we need to get into a tightly fitting swimwear garment. A Chlorine Resistant swimwear fabric does not contain the fiber elastane, that may also be known by a brand name like spandex. The stretch in a Chlorine resistant swimsuit comes from the way the fabric is knitted. It may be a little harder to get into a chlorine resistant garment as it does not have the elastane for stretch that helps with getting in and out of a swimsuit.
Does Chlorine Shrink Bathing Suits?
No, Chlorine does not shrink bathing suits. A chlorine resistant swimsuit may appear to be a slightly smaller fit because of the lack of stretch due to there being no elastane fibers in the fabric. There are some cons of Chlorine Resistant swimwear and unfortunately the biggest negative is stretch. It is the elastane fibers within regular women’s swimwear that give the garment stretch and make it easier to get on and off. A chlorine resistant garment does not have these elastane fibers within the fabric, so a chlorine resistant swimsuit isn’t as easy to stretch and get on and off. Because of this lack of stretch, Chlorine Resistant swimsuits will never feel as comfortable when worn. But if you are a regular swimmer and would love to wear a swimsuit that will not break down, then a chlorine resistant swimsuit is the perfect option for you.
First signs that my swimsuit is affected by Chlorine
The first signs that your regular women’s swimsuit has been affected by chlorine is the loosening of the stretch of the swimsuit. You will then see fine sand like grains appearing on the swimsuit and over time the elastane will completely break down and your swimsuit will become discolored, saggy and see-through. This breakdown and degradation effect on swimwear can even happen when the swimsuit is not being used.
So, keep your head above ‘the pool’ water here at Nip Tuck Swim as we offer a selection of pool proof chlorine resistant swimsuits perfect for NOT breaking down under the effects of the harsh chemical Chlorine.
