High Quality Swimwear that is Chlorine Resistant

As we all know Pool Chlorine can ruin our swimwear.

It doesn't matter if you are a daily swimmer, a sometimes pool enthusiast, or if you only swim on vacation: chlorine will eat away at your beautiful swimsuit.

When your swimsuit is exposed to chlorine, it will gradually break down. If not cared for properly, over time, chlorine corrodes and eats away at your beautiful swimwear fabric. This degradation of the fabric in your swimwear happens straight away gradually and then the degradation builds up more over time. You may not notice any change at first but a tell-tale sign that chlorine is ruining your swimsuit is that it will start to lose its elasticity. You will first notice that your swimsuit is a little looser and stretchier than usual and will start to have sand-like grains visible on the surface. These sand-looking grains are a visual marker that the elastane is breaking down in the suit and over time, this will cause the swimsuit to become saggy, discoloured, and more importantly see-through. This degradation can happen even when the swimsuit isn't being used.

All pools need chlorine to destroy any bacteria and control algae formation. Chlorine keeps us safe when we are swimming in a pool as it disinfects and oxidizes (chemically destroys) materials like dirt and chloramines (chemical compounds that build up over time from our sweat, oils and urine – gross!).

Chlorine Helps Fight Germs in Swimming Pools

Why do we need these chemicals in our pools, Chlorine is needed in all pools to keep you and your family safe! It protects you from waterborne germs, bacteria, and algae by forming an acid called hypochlorous acid. This acid is what kills the unwanted substances in your pool.

Chlorine (CI) is a chemical that is naturally occurring, making it a base block for universal matter and putting it on the periodic table. It is produced through a process called electrolysis where an electric current is passed through brine (salt dissolved in water).

No matter the level of chlorine in a pool however, any presence of chlorine on your bathing suit will ruin it.

What does Chlorine do to Swimwear?

The first signs that your regular women's swimsuit has been affected by chlorine is the loosening of the stretch of the swimsuit and then you will see fine sand like grains appearing on the swimsuit and then over time the elastane will completely break down and your swimsuit will become discoloured, saggy and see through.

This breakdown and degradation effect on swimwear can even happen when the swimsuit is not being used.

All indoor and outdoor swimming pools, hot tubs and spa’s use the chemical Chlorine to destroy bacteria and control algae that grows in a pool environment. Chlorine is added to pools, so it is safe for us to swim. When our swimwear is exposed to Chlorine it will gradually break down, the Chlorine chemical over time will corrosively eat into the swimwear fibres causing the fabric to fade, become saggy, lose all stretch, gradually become see through and over time degrade.

Yes, Regular swimsuits are designed in a fabric that breaks down

Regular swimsuits are made from fabrics that do break down in chlorine.

Getting a tight-fitting swimsuit that provides tummy control benefits is no easy feat. To do it, swimsuits need to be made using fabrics that are stretchy and will recover from being stretched over and over again without losing their shape.

Elastane is an incredibly stretchy fibre that will recover its shape time and again as if it were new. Elastane is a synthetic fibre, made from a polyurethane which has elastic properties. The biggest advantage of using elastane is that it can retain its original shape despite being stretched. BUT it does not have the longest lifespan. To work against this, our fabrication is mixed with Nylon which is a fibre that has incredible abrasion and wear resistance and can dry faster than other fabrics. Nylon is light weight and accounts for most of the fabrication make-up in all regular womens swimsuits.

A Better Solution is Chlorine Resistant Swimwear...

We have the perfect solution for you!

You can buy perfectly fitting Nip Tuck Swim swimwear that is CHLORINE RESISTANT!

Our range of chlorine resistant swimwear is made out of Polyester PBT and doesn’t have any elastane in the make-up of the fabrication. This means that there is no elastane for chlorine to eat away at.  Our chlorine resistant swimsuits last season after season and are not only economical but more environmental too.

There are some downsides to Chlorine resistant swimwear though and unfortunately the biggest one here is that it doesn’t stretch easily and that makes it harder to get on. This is a challenge to get on and off, especially when your swimsuit is wet. This lack of stretch means that these swimsuits may not feel as comfortable on as our other swimsuits do.

We have a range of chlorine resistant swimsuits on offer currently! This includes our classic Joanne Twist Front shape in both plain black and new prints released every year

Why is Chlorine Resistant Swimwear a Bit Tighter to get on?

A Chlorine Resistant Swimsuit has a different fit to normal nylon / elastane swimwear,  it may feel a bit small when you’re putting your swimsuit on – this is normal and you will get used to the feeling especially when you realise how long a swimsuit lasts.

Yes Chlorine resistant swimwear has a much tighter feel when you are putting on the swimsuit. But don’t be deterred – this is correct, it naturally will.

Buy your same size as you would your normal swimsuit size, if you are normally a size 10 in regular swimwear then you will be a size 10 in chlorine resistant swimwear. It will feel tighter to get the bather on, the reason is the lack of elastane fibre in the fabric composition. Elastane gives regular swimwear the stretch and comfort to get on and off the body. Whereas the polyester PBT has very limited stretch so will feel very tight getting on – BUT once you have the swimsuit on, it will fit like a glove and the best part : will not break down over time.
